Quantum Race.

Quantum Race is one of three main events which will be held during the Empowering Interest in Physics programme. Our objective is to introduce the students towards the application of Physics theories in everyday life. We also aim to encourage the students to interact within groups and to build teamwork and cooperation skills amongst them.

Seven activities will be held simultaneously in two Physics laboratories in Sekolah Menegah Teknik Kuala Lumpur (SMTKL). The first one, αβγ, involves solving a puzzle in the form of equations given by the facilitators. Next, Analysing requires the participants to watch two videos of a car moving at high speeds. They must find the speed of the car by analysing the distance and time covered in the video.

Centre of gravity have the participants build a structure from lidi sticks, balloons and plasticine which must be structurally sound. The structure must be as big as possible and must be able to stand on a bottle of water. Tic Tac Toe involves the participants to play a rousing game of Tic Tac Toe using ping pong balls, where the grid are nine cups filled with water.

Quiz Whizz is a simple trivia style game where the questions are related to Physics and important figures within the field throughout history. Egg Parachute has the participants to build a working parachute so that an egg can land safely from the air without cracking. Lastly, Surface Tension has the students float as many paper clips on water as fast as they can within the time limit.

Physics Showtime!

Physics Showtime! is one of three main events which will be held during the Empowering Interest in Physics programme. Our objective is to inform the students about the various fields and concepts of Physics, and show them that Physics is easy to understand.

Six activities will be held simultaneously in the media room in Sekolah Menegah Teknik Kuala Lumpur (SMTKL). Demonstrations, videos and experiments will be done by our facilitators, with a quiz and a Q&A session in the end to wrap up and make sure the participants are able to fully understand what we are trying to convey. Theories and concepts involved are as follows:

  • Newtonian Physics.
  • Electricity and Electromagnetism.
  • Optics and Light.
  • Heat.
  • Pressure and Fluid.
  • Waves and Vibrations.

Glory of the Physicists.

Glory of the Physicists is one of three main events which will be held during the Empowering Interest in Physics programme. Our objective is to introduce the students to historical figures and their contributions in Physics. The participants are grouped and given articles and small excerpts of the given figures and must give a full presentation in the front. The figures are as follows:

  • Albert Einstein.
  • Isaac Newton.
  • Galileo Galilei.
  • Blaise Pascal.
  • Archimedes of Syracuse.
  • Thomas Edison.
  • Michael Faraday.
