EIP 2018 REFLECTIONS: ABANG FENG

"I was so pleased to see them actively involved in the activities. At that moment, I felt like finally I had contributed something to society."

When I was asked to create a programme that can raise the interest of students in physics, actually I didn’t have any expectations. Although the idea is good, I was very uninterested as it is very time-consuming. Besides that, I didn’t know any of my group members so I was thinking that how am I going to work with someone who I don’t know. I was worried and stressed. But after I approached them, I changed my mind. They are very friendly. They treated me just like their family. At that time, I was touched. I felt very comfortable working with them.

We began our discussion and start planning. During the preparation stage, we faced lots of challenges and difficulties. We had to plan what activities are suitable for the students. We had to practise the dance moves. At first, I didn’t have a good feeling about it as it seemed to be impossible to complete all of this in a short time. We even had last minute changes in our planning just the night before the event. Thus, I felt that this event must not success. However, no matter what, we still have to go on.
The day finally came. I felt very nervous and at the same time, I also wanted to see the students. The students were very active and cooperative. Actually, I didn’t expect them to behave like this as I thought most of the students don’t like physics. I was so pleased to see them actively involved in the activities. At that moment, I felt like finally I had contributed something to the society. The students were really enjoyed the programme, so do I. They said they had learnt the knowledge that won’t be learnt in the lessons. They also looked forward to the next event. They hoped that we will have this kind of event again.

The programme finally ended. I think I will feel very happy but this is not the case. I have a weird feeling but I don’t know how to express it. It is some kind of disappointment. No matter what it is, I think the event is a success and actually gives a huge impact on the students. I am very enjoyed this event. It gives me a chance to contribute to the society. Besides, I also get an opportunity to get to know my group members.

Finally, I would like to thank Dr Azzu and also Dr Selvi as both of them had helped us a lot during our preparation. And most importantly, I would like to take this chance to thank all my group members as everyone had done a great job. Without you all, the event won’t be a success.
