EIP 2018 REFLECTIONS: ABANG MANJE
"Until this day, I am convinced that I am not 100% forgot all the memories and exciting feeling in doing physics stuff with the children."
For the pre-programme, the preparation for the programme was made as early as approximately 3 months before the event was started to avoid last minute works. After all the discussion, I had been chosen to be the coordinator for the programme and assigned to lead my team as many as 15 first year student from the same department which is Department of Physics, Faculty of Science University Malaya. I had experienced on how to become a good leader and make a wise decision during critical time. When there are many opinions from my teammates about a particular problem, I had learned to handle them wisely and pick the most suitable way to solve the problem. My teammates and I also learned how to cooperate physically and mentally with each other throughout the entire preparation. Without that values, I am sure that all the management for the event, like brainstorming activity modules, collecting all the things for the programme, contacting the school where the event will be held, making the paperwork, making plan to take care all the welfare of the participant during the programme and so on will cannot be arranged properly. Tolerance and unity are two factors that we held during working hand in hand with each other. The tentative of the whole programme also keep changing due to process to make it tally with the schedule of the targeted school as their schedule keep changing. The school where our event held was Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur by the way. But fortunately, we manage to confirm the tentative just before we started our programme. From this, I had learned to be flexible and the importance of having back up plan as we do not know what difficulties will be come in the future.
Our programme started at 13 April 2018 (Friday) in the evening. As soon as we arrived at the school at approximately 3 pm, together, we set up the multimedia room to welcome 70 form 4 students that become the participant. The programme started officially at that night through our first activity which was icebreaking. In this session, I managed to know about the student’s background roughly especially participant from my group (the students were divided into 7 group which contain 10 members in each group). I also managed to ignite their spirit in joining the programme by helping them creating enthusiastic cheers for our group. That night was totally lit up when every group were given the chances to present their cheers. The excitement was clearly shown on every faces of the students. The next day in the morning was filled up with Quantum Race which was an explorace that had station related to physics. In the activity, the participant managed to learn about physics in a fun way and easier to be understand as the concept of the physics were practically shown in each station. The participant was so excited to learn physic in such a way and that make me feel really satisfied. For the evening activities, my friend and I set up as many as 6 booth, each covering different field in physic. There, the student can understand the physics more through the experiments conducted by us. They also were given the opportunity to do the experiment by themselves after that. We were so happy looking the student to begin liking the physics stuff by these activities. There was one boy, named Ng who was very excited until he created his own cheers about physics and eventually become our programme official cheers. The cheer was "Physics is Fun! Pssssss". The session of that day was closed with presentation activities. They need to present about the history and background of physicist in which their group was named from.
In the post-programme, as the closing ceremony had already end, I thought the programme had also will be ended. Yes, it should be like that according to the protocol in the reality world. However, the principle seems not work the same way as in my inner world. I feel that I still in the school; having activities with the students although at that time I already in my college doing assignments. It takes time for me to fully move on from the programme. Until this day, I am convinced that I am not 100% forgot all the memories and exciting feeling in doing physics stuff with the children. Whenever I have a free time, I will scroll the gallery in my phone to see the pictures and videos taken with them. I miss this programme so much. Maybe because I had learned a lot of things there also besides teaching the student about physics. The enthusiastic reaction shown by the participants when experiencing the physics principle through the experiment will never be forgotten. Till today, some of them still contacting me saying that they want more of the excitement and eager to welcome the EIP team in the future. They say that the previous programme took only a short amount of time and requested for a full week instead. Hahaha. Never mind, maybe next time okay? Hearing their sincere responses and feedbacks that came from their heart, I am convince that the Empowering Interest in Physics programme has already grab its objective successfully. I will absolutely join more programme like this in the future to motivate the youngster about how important they are to the future of the society and the nation. I hope this kind of programme will not stop here and will be continued by another generation with more improvement compare to the previous one. I am also looking forward to propose this kind of programme as our PERFIUM’s (Persatuan Fizik Universiti Malaya) obligatory annual programme. InshaAllah.
